Homeland Security volunteers began after 9-11 as an initiative to help create a safer environment in the La Crosse public buildings. Homeland security volunteers serve as the eyes and ears of the building where they volunteer. Volunteers help with security by staffing the informational booths providing assistance and information to citizens as well as directing lost individuals to the correct office. Volunteers in La Crosse County assist at four different locations; La Crosse City Hall, La Crosse Administration Building, La Crosse Health and Human Services, and La Crosse Family Court Commission.
